Website Inaugural Note

In the era of information and technology the website is one of the best methods to share information and bring students, faculty, alumni and visitors close to the educational Centre. So here is the Centre of Russian Studies with its newly developed website for the same purpose.

The various sections of the websites provide information on the following:

"Home"
The main page states a short note on the Centre along with Notice Board and CRS photo gallery.

"About Us" 
This page gives a brief introduction of the Centre and information on CRS Alumni, Centre's activities.

"Courses"
It will help to understand the course structure at various level along with admission procedure, etc. for Indian students.

"Research"
Information on Centre's research areas and objectives along with research projects and faculty publications can be sought here.

"Journal-Critic" 
The content list of all the issues of journal of the Centre "Critic" is listed here to give a brief idea on the various topics covered till the date. The journal can be accessed at CRS Library (Room no. 206), SLL&CS.

"Achievments"
This section showcases the awards and honors received by faculty and students of the CRS. Information about various MoU can also be found here.

"Faculty"
Here one can find the information about faculty members and staff of the CRS.

"Student's Zone"
This section is one of the main attractions of the website. It contains information on various facilities, scholarships, awards, forms for students.. This section also has guidelines on employment, Anti Ragging policy and PolicyAgainst Sexual Harassment. The link for international students is given to guide them the admission procedure and how to get opportunity to enroll at the University.

"Contact"
This website will help not only in providing information but also to contact the chairperson directly through email as well as contact details.

The Centre is thankful to Mr. Sonu Saini for floating the idea of CRS website, initiating the development, compiling the data for website and engaging in the development process of the website. We also would like to thank Dr. Meenu Bhatnagar for editing and refining the data. I wish to sincerely thank all faculty members for sending their updated academic information. The joint efforts of all provided us the opportunity to showcase the Centre of Russian Studies as Centre of Excellence.

I take this opportunity to extend my hearty gratitude to the Director of CIS and Ms. Ritu Nidhi, Web Administrator for developing the website and their cooperation. We highly appreciate the webmaster for her painstaking efforts.

A warm welcome to the modified and updated website of the Centre for East Asian Studies. The East Asian region has been at the forefront of several path-breaking changes since 1970s beginning with the redefining the development architecture with its State-led development model besides emerging as a major region in the global politics and a key hub of the sophisticated technologies. The Centre is one of the thirteen Centres of the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi that provides a holistic understanding of the region.

Initially, established as a Centre for Chinese and Japanese Studies, it subsequently grew to include Korean Studies as well. At present there are eight faculty members in the Centre. Several distinguished faculty who have now retired include the late Prof. Gargi Dutt, Prof. P.A.N. Murthy, Prof. G.P. Deshpande, Dr. Nranarayan Das, Prof. R.R. Krishnan and Prof. K.V. Kesavan. Besides, Dr. Madhu Bhalla served at the Centre in Chinese Studies Programme during 1994-2006. In addition, Ms. Kamlesh Jain and Dr. M. M. Kunju served the Centre as the Documentation Officers in Chinese and Japanese Studies respectively.

The academic curriculum covers both modern and contemporary facets of East Asia as each scholar specializes in an area of his/her interest in the region. The integrated course involves two semesters of classes at the M. Phil programme and a dissertation for the M. Phil and a thesis for Ph. D programme respectively. The central objective is to impart an interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of history, foreign policy, government and politics, society and culture and political economy of the respective areas. Students can explore new and emerging themes such as East Asian regionalism, the evolving East Asian Community, the rise of China, resurgence of Japan and the prospects for reunification of the Korean peninsula. Additionally, the Centre lays great emphasis on the building of language skills. The background of scholars includes mostly from the social science disciplines; History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, International Relations and language.

Several students of the centre have been recipients of prestigious research fellowships awarded by Japan Foundation, Mombusho (Ministry of Education, Government of Japan), Saburo Okita Memorial Fellowship, Nippon Foundation, Korea Foundation, Nehru Memorial Fellowship, and Fellowship from the Chinese and Taiwanese Governments. Besides, students from Japan receive fellowship from the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.
