Prof. Gouri Shankar Singhal Merit Scholarship Award
A sum of Rs. 2,00,000 was donated in the year September 2004 by Prof. Sushila Singhal, wife of late Prof. G.S. Singhal, a former professor of photobiology in the School of Life Sciences as an endowment for instituting the “Prof. Gauri Shankar Singhal Merit Scholarship” to be awarded to an M.Sc. 4th semester student who has obtained the highest CGPA at the end of 3rd semester.
The scholarship award carries an amount of Rs.1,000/- per month for a year or two semesters from the date of registration into the Monsoon Semester until the end of Winter Semester, excluding the vacation period, subject to the condition that he/she is not in receipt of any other scholarship/ fellowship from any other source, excluding the vacation period.

Smt. Jaswant Kaur Khurana Merit Award
A sum of Rs.5,00,000 was donated in the year December 2004 by Prof. Jai Kishan Khurana, father of Prof. R. Madhubala, School of Life Sciences as an endowment for instituting the Smt. Jaswant Kaur Khurana Merit Award. This is an annual one-time award of Rs.15,000 to a student who obtained the highest rank at the conclusion of the M.Sc./ M. Phil./Ph.D. programmes out of the interests earned on the endowment created for the purpose.

Prof. Ramesha Rao Scholarship and Travel Grant
The Scholarship and Travel Grant were proposed to encourage more students to do research on cancer biology, a discipline in which Professor Rao had specialized and guided students during his tenure as a professor in the School of Life Sciences, JNU.
The following criteria for the award of Prof. Ramesha Rao is as under:
A. Prof. Ramesha Rao Scholarship for MSc. Student
The award is for a period of 10 months @ Rs.3,000/- per month to the 2nd year M.Sc. student. Selection criteria and grading are as follows.
- Applicants should complete 2nd semester of M.Sc. and plan for a research project related to cancer biology basic or applied research.
- The research proposal should be written within 1000-1500 words containing, a title, brief introduction, objectives, methodology, and expected outcome and be forwarded by the Supervisor.
- A Committee constituted by Dean, SLS will evaluate the proposals. Fifty percent score will be from the CGPA upto 2nd semester and 50% will be based on the project proposal.
- The due consideration may be given to students from rural background and weaker sections.
B. Prof. Ramesha Rao travel grant for Ph.D. Student
The travel grant of up to Rs.30,000/- to a Ph.D. student for presenting a paper in an international conference, seminar, etc. in the area of Cancer Biology. The applicant(s) will need to apply through the Supervisor indicating the details of the conference, venue, date, subject, proof of the acceptance of the abstract, copy of the abstract, tentative total cost, and plan regarding meeting the remaining amount required.

Smt. Kailash Hans Bhalla Memorial Award
A sum of Rs. 5,00,000 was donated in the year July 2013 by Prof. Neera Bhalla Sarin, a former professor in the School of Life Sciences, JNU as an endowment to institute the “Smt. Kailash Hans Bhalla Memorial Award for Plant Sciences” to be awarded to 4th semester M.Sc. student/s who have secured highest marks (aggregates of the two courses) in both Plant Physiology (2nd Semester) and Plant Development Biology (3rd Semester).
The award carries a certificate, memento and a cash prize out of the interests earned on the endowment created for the purpose. In case of more than one awardee, the prize money will be equally distributed among them.
