Participations as a Team

 

1st Prize in D-Crypto Competition as part of team “The Finance Trines”; Competition organized by D-Street Society, Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi as part of their Annual Fest “Bullzire 2021”. Awarded on 23rd April, 2021. (Team members: Amrit Mohapatra, Gaurav Kumar Gupta, Ashish Chaurasia). The competition was held in three rounds:

 

  • Online Quiz: The quiz tested participants’ familiarity with the basic concepts of cryptocurrencies.
  •  
  • Online Mock Trading: This round simulated the real life experience of trading of cryptocurrencies. Teams were provided with some initial cash balance on an online trading platform. They had to invest the money in various cryptocurrency listed on the platform. The higher the profit make, the higher the teams were ranked on the leader board.
  •  
  • Online Questionnaire: The shortlisted candidates advanced to the questionnaire round. A questionnaire with a set of questions on topics including case studies, advance mathematical calculations, fundamentals and core concepts of cryptocurrency were provided to the participants. The faster rate of scoring led to the greater advantage.

Out of a total of 1067 participants, our team was able to secure the 1st position in the competition.

  1. Published an article titled “Agricultural Sector: Causes of Distress and Ways for Revival” in Vittkosh 2020-21 Magazine, published by Vittshala-The Financial Literacy Cell of Shri Ram College of Commerce. Published on June 5th, 2021.
  2. 1st Prize in an article writing competition organized by Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Kolkata for their magazine “InFINeeti-Budget Edition 2021”. - Topic “Impact of Atmanirbhar Bharat Production Linked Incentive Scheme on the Manufacturing Sector”. Awarded on 14th April, 2021.
  3. 1st Prize in an article writing competition organized by Vivekanand Education Society Institute of Management Studies and Research for the competition “VARNAN - The Blog Writing Contest”. Topic of the article: “Financial Management in times of COVID-19: Bailout lessons”. Awarded on 12th April, 2021.
  4. Published an article as a “Special Mention” on “Start-Up Funding: The Emergence of Venture Debt Funds” in Arbitrage Magazine, Feb ’21 Edition, published by FI Club, Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak. Awarded on March 10th, 2021.

Case Title: Vistara-Turbulence for the Tatas?

Our case is based on evaluating the business model of TATA SIA Airlines Ltd, popularly known by the brand name “Vistara”. Our case, true to its title talks about the problems faced by the Tatas in managing their airline business and the steps they need to take to improve their performance. The case has been accepted for publication by Emerging Economies Cases Journal, a double blinded peer reviewed journal published by SAGE Publications.

 

We would like to thank Dr. Sakshi Sharma Ma’am for her utmost guidance and mentorship while helping us prepare this case. It would not have been possible to achieve this feat at all without her blessings. We would also like to thank our friends and benefactors who supported and motivated us to work upon this case. A warm welcome to the modified and updated website of the Centre for East Asian Studies. The East Asian region has been at the forefront of several path-breaking changes since 1970s beginning with the redefining the development architecture with its State-led development model besides emerging as a major region in the global politics and a key hub of the sophisticated technologies. The Centre is one of the thirteen Centres of the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi that provides a holistic understanding of the region.

Initially, established as a Centre for Chinese and Japanese Studies, it subsequently grew to include Korean Studies as well. At present there are eight faculty members in the Centre. Several distinguished faculty who have now retired include the late Prof. Gargi Dutt, Prof. P.A.N. Murthy, Prof. G.P. Deshpande, Dr. Nranarayan Das, Prof. R.R. Krishnan and Prof. K.V. Kesavan. Besides, Dr. Madhu Bhalla served at the Centre in Chinese Studies Programme during 1994-2006. In addition, Ms. Kamlesh Jain and Dr. M. M. Kunju served the Centre as the Documentation Officers in Chinese and Japanese Studies respectively.

The academic curriculum covers both modern and contemporary facets of East Asia as each scholar specializes in an area of his/her interest in the region. The integrated course involves two semesters of classes at the M. Phil programme and a dissertation for the M. Phil and a thesis for Ph. D programme respectively. The central objective is to impart an interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of history, foreign policy, government and politics, society and culture and political economy of the respective areas. Students can explore new and emerging themes such as East Asian regionalism, the evolving East Asian Community, the rise of China, resurgence of Japan and the prospects for reunification of the Korean peninsula. Additionally, the Centre lays great emphasis on the building of language skills. The background of scholars includes mostly from the social science disciplines; History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, International Relations and language.

Several students of the centre have been recipients of prestigious research fellowships awarded by Japan Foundation, Mombusho (Ministry of Education, Government of Japan), Saburo Okita Memorial Fellowship, Nippon Foundation, Korea Foundation, Nehru Memorial Fellowship, and Fellowship from the Chinese and Taiwanese Governments. Besides, students from Japan receive fellowship from the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.
